How it actually works and we start with a longitudinal balance …Ī nose-heavy aircraft, an aircraft that has a center of gravity very forward, tends to tilt its nose to the ground and drop sharply.Ī tail-heavy aircraft, that is, an aircraft with a center of gravity at the rear, rises during the flight, raises the nose up, losing speed and starting to fall.Ī properly balanced aircraft sinks slightly evenly over the flight, does not stagger, spin, or nose down.Ī laterally unbalanced aircraft has one wing heavier than the other, thus the longitudinal axis is offset to the side. However, let us return with a little theory to the focus. In general, however, it is better to have a minimum of ballast on an aircraft than a poorly balanced model. We will not deal with this here, it is important to maintain the maximum weight of the aircraft as defined by the manufacturer or constructor. Also, these are very easy to store out of the way. Just mark your wings where your CG is located and set the wings on the stands with the center gap between the pads on your mark.
This simple but very effective design will let you place each balancer anywhere from the fuselage all the way to the wing tip depending on your model design.
You can use these balancers with very small foamys all the way up to 30# airplanes, depending on the wing structure.
